Last week and in the coming weeks, pigeon racing at my loft will be on the back burner.
Only the bare essentials will be done. You can read the reason below. My wonderful wife and daughters will be taking care of the pigeons in the coming period.
Today, the pigeons were scheduled to be vaccinated against paramyxovirus. The entire pack was to be vaccinated. Ultimately, we decided to vaccinate only the breeders and a small group of late youngsters who received their second Paramyxo/Rota vaccination.
The reason for the minimal focus on the pigeons:
Last Friday around 12:45-1:00 p.m., I ended up in the ambulance after my back completely locked up and the pain was unbearable.
Yesterday, Friday, a full week later, we were allowed to leave the hospital.
A widespread hernia was diagnosed, more pronounced on the right but also present on the left, resulting in pressure on the nerve.
An infiltration followed on the right side last week and I was on an IV until yesterday morning.
The pressing pain on the right side is better after the infiltration, but the nagging pain on the left remains, with pain/weakness in the thigh.
With the necessary medication, it seemed feasible to go home, and we will now have to wait and see how things develop and whether I have overestimated my ability to go home.
I will return for a check-up on December 11, when further steps and developments will be discussed.
My sincere thanks to the Cadiz ambulance service who administered first aid on Friday in the street, even though it was incredibly painful.
The emergency staff at AZ Klina, but especially the people in surgical unit 3 at AZ Klina, for their excellent care and assistance.
